About Bachpan Save The Innocence
Bachpan Save The Innocence is a public trust dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse (CSA) through awareness programs, advocacy, and direct intervention. We are one of the largest volunteering organisations in India to work on this issue.
Our major work includes conducting workshops in schools, where we often receive disclosures of CSA cases. Our mission is to create a safe environment for children by equipping communities with knowledge, legal aid, and necessary support systems.
About the Programme
In collaboration with Outlawed India, we are launching a Legal Response Team Programme to engage law students in supporting CSA victims. Through this initiative, volunteers from law schools across the country will become part of a specialized team that responds to CSA cases reported during our workshops.
The programme will run for a minimum of 3 months, with volunteers actively handling cases and legal support.
Volunteers will form small teams and will be responsible for assisting in:
- Case documentation and preliminary response
- Guiding survivors and their families on legal recourse
- Coordinating with relevant authorities, including DCPUs and CWCs
- Providing legal literacy to school staff and students
- Supporting survivors through psychological first aid and legal assistance
Engagement with Schools & Guardians
- Volunteers are required to communicate with schools/organizations where the child has shared the case, seeking their support.
- They must take the parents/guardians of the child into confidence and ensure their involvement.
Legal Assistance & Support
- Guide victims and their guardians about their legal rights under the POCSO Act and other relevant laws.
- Assist in filing complaints with the appropriate authorities (e.g., police, Child Welfare Committees).
Coordination with Authorities
- Volunteers must maintain communication with child protection agencies, law enforcement, and legal aid organizations to ensure proper case escalation.
- Timely updates on the status of each case must be provided to ensure accountability and progress.
Offline & Online Availability
- The work might require both offline and online involvement depending on the nature of the case.
- Volunteers are expected to contribute at least 5 hours a week, but this may vary depending on the complexity of the case.
Awareness & Advocacy
- Conduct legal literacy sessions for school authorities, parents, and children about CSA laws and reporting mechanisms.
- Distribute informational resources and legal aid materials in schools and communities.
Emotional & Social Support
- Coordinate with psychologists, counselors, and social workers to ensure victims receive mental health support.
- Help create a safe environment where survivors feel empowered to share their experiences.
