Africa’s entertainment and creative scene is booming. Its sounds and rhythms are a force to reckon with. Easy access to social media apps and streaming services partly accounts for the boom. Deloitte’s 2024 Global Digital Media Trends notes that “Africa’s streaming market is evolving at a remarkable pace, reshaping how people consume entertainment.” The report attributes the explosion in the streaming market to improved technology and increasing internet penetration. In summary, Africa’s creative content has come of age.
But there are hurdles to overcome. Ghana, like most African countries, has struggled to take real advantage of the global creative space. The country’s struggle comes down to a number of factors. Access to legal services is uneven. The rules are often unclear and require a complex registration processes. Persons outside major towns and cities have to travel several kilometres to access intellectual property advice and support. And generally, the rules and regulations lag behind developments on the ground. The weaknesses in intellectual property are evident in the regulations and advocacy.
In response to this state of affairs, Liando Africa Legal PRUC, in collaboration with the United States Embassy Ghana and Jambo Spaces, is spearheading a transformative initiative to empower Ghana’s creative sector.
This first-of-its-kind CSR initiative will convene a mix of recording artistes, producers, DJs, emcees, legal experts, business leaders, and key industry stakeholders. The goal is to unpack practical legal, financial, and digital strategies to help creatives protect their work and sustainably monetize their talent.
What to Expect:
- Practical insights on legal rights, revenue streams, and brand monetization
- Free legal consultation sessions for creatives
- Surprise live performances supported by the Blue Jackets Band
- Networking and cocktail session post-panel discussions
This initiative reaffirms Liando Africa Legal PRUC’s commitment to education, empowerment, and inclusive growth of the creative ecosystem in Ghana.
