The Liverpool Public Law Unit (LPLU) is pleased to announce a one-day workshop for PhD candidates and early-career researchers working in constitutional law and theory, and related fields.

This workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to present their research, receive constructive feedback from established scholars, and engage in discussions on current developments in the field. The workshop is jointly organised by the Liverpool Public Law Unit and Bristol Law School, and is generously funded by both LPLU and the UKCLA. The event follows previous iterations including in Liverpool (2016, 2019), Strathclyde (2018), Sheffield (2020), and Bristol (2024).

The workshop will take place at the School of Law and Social Justice, University of Liverpool, on Wednesday 23rd April 2025. Participants will present their work before an assembled panel of experts who will provide feedback on their research.  The panel will include:

We welcome submissions from PhD candidates at any stage of their research and early-career scholars within five years of completing their PhD. Papers on all aspects of public law are encouraged, including but not limited to constitutional law, administrative law, human rights, legal theory, and comparative public law. In line with the interests of the Liverpool Public Law Unit, we are particularly interested in heterodox approaches to public law, including approaches engaging with feminism, Marxism, anti-colonialism, critical race theory, or any other critical approaches to public law. This can include scholars that are outside the discipline of law, but whose work is relevant to questions of public law.

The event will be free to attend and lunch will be provided. There will also be the option of an evening meal with the panellists available for an extra fee.
