Karachi: The Sindh government has launched an initiative to digitize the attendance system for teachers and staff through a mobile application, aiming to enhance transparency and efficiency in the education sector. The application will also integrate student enrollment records and directly link attendance data with the Accountant General’s Office.

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah emphasized the government’s commitment to digital transformation, stating, “We are embarking on a digital journey of performance, transparency, and monitoring to ensure that resources are utilized based on facts.”

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting in Karachi, attended by key officials, including School Education Secretary Zahid Ali Abbasi and representatives from the Monitoring & Evaluation Wing.

During the meeting, officials demonstrated the new digital attendance mechanism, which incorporates biometric authentication using the Iris Recognition System. The technology maintains precise presence records throughout life by evaluating non-changing human biometrics using persistent iris patterns.  The solution will work within the mobile application to impose enhanced security and dependability characteristics.

Geofencing technology in the mobile application allows teachers and staff to mark attendance only within school borders.  Attendance records will be saved offline before being automatically synchronized when the internet connection is restored.  Each teacher must perform check-in and check-out sessions using facial recognition systems that provide quick updates to attendance records.

The education department will add leave management tools to their new application.  The system enables workers and teachers to seek leave using digital interfaces while also creating daily, weekly, and monthly attendance reports.  When employees fail to disclose their absences, exhibit frequent late behavior, or leave prematurely, the system will automatically notify them.

The platform integrates enrollment records with the B-Form system to create exact planning and administrative data. Officials underscored the importance of user-friendly design and cloud-based data storage to enhance security and ease of access for all employees.

In the next phase, the system will be connected to the Accountant General’s Office, automating salary deductions for unapproved absences. The move aims to enforce accountability and efficiency in Sindh’s education sector while aligning with modern digital governance practices.
