Equity mutual fund inflows fell 26 percent to Rs 29,303.34 crore in February 2025 from the previous month, according to AMFI data released on March 12. The sharp decline reflects investor caution amid market volatility, highlighting a shift in sentiment as investors navigate uncertain conditions in the equity markets. Moreover, the Indian mutual fund industry’s assets under management (AUM) fell 4.04 percent to Rs 64.53 lakh crore in February from Rs 67.25 lakh crore in January, driven by market losses in the equity segment. The decline reflects broader market volatility, impacting investor sentiment and fund performance across equity-focused schemes. Furthermore, Fund inflows declined more in riskier segments, with small-cap funds seeing a 34.9 percent drop to Rs 3,722.46 crore, while large-cap funds had a milder 6.4 percent decline to Rs 2,866 crore. The sharper fall in small-cap investments highlights cautious investor sentiment amid market uncertainties, favoring relatively stable large-cap funds.
