Why Newly Appointed Legal Chiefs Can’t Ease Into Their Roles

A new general counsel might hope for a 90-day runway to get acclimated, assess the legal department and craft a strategic plan. But according to Delida Costin, a former chief legal officer who’s now an executive coach, incoming legal chiefs don’t have that luxury.

“When you walk into an executive position, you’ve got to do stuff immediately,” Costin said. “You don’t have 90 days to put together a wonderful road map and a plan. Nobody cares.”
