About the Competition

The UPES Dr. Paras Diwan Memorial International Energy Law Moot Court Competition, now in its XV edition, is India’s premier moot dedicated exclusively to Energy Law. Drawing participation from top law schools in India and abroad, it is recognised as a prestigious and specialised platform within the field.

Since its inception in 2011 and international expansion in 2015, the competition has fostered a decade-long legacy in Energy Law, promoting learning and the development of jurisprudence in this area. Participants benefit from a competitive environment, expert judges, and immersive experiences designed to enhance their skills in research, writing, and advocacy.

Organized by the UPES School of Law, the 2025 edition promises an exceptional lineup of judges and a warm welcome from the Organizing Committee, honouring Dr. Paras Diwan’s legacy as an influential Indian jurist.

Eligibility

The competition is open for students who are pursuing LLB (three-year / five-year) courses during the current academic year.

A recognized Institution/College/University shall be entitled to send only one Team for the Competition. The maximum number of participants per team shall be restricted to 3 wherein only 2 shall be speakers and 1 shall be the designated researcher. The researcher shall be allowed to argue with the prior permission of the court and Administrator in case of illness of the designated speakers.

Note: Only the designated speaker in the Preliminary Rounds shall be eligible for the Best Orator award.

No Team Coach, mentor, observer or any other person shall be accompanying registered participating team members. Teams should not disclose the identity of their institution; such disclosure shall invite penalties including disqualification. The decision for the same shall be at the discretion of the Administrator.

Team Composition

Each Team shall comprise three members. Two members of the Team shall be designated as Orators and the third member shall be designated as the Researcher. Any additional member or Team Coach accompanying a Team shall not be recognized and will not be entitled to a certificate from the OC.

Any changes in the Team Composition shall be communicated to the OC before the commencement of the competition, failure of which can entail disqualification.

Registration Process

The institution can book a slot by sending an email to the Official Mail ID of MCC, UPES from their Official Moot Court ID by February 23, 2025. The teams must also fill out the Google Form for the Final Registration by February 25, 2025.

An Approval Letter (with seal and signature) as provided on page no. 21 of the Rule Book duly filled from the participant’s institution/moot society along with a scanned copy of the Receipt of Online payment will be required by the teams at the time of the final registration.

Registration Fee

A registration fee of Rs 3,500 /- (Three Thousand Five Hundred Rupees Only) is to be paid online by the team through the attached QR Code.

Accommodation Fee

The teams qualifying for the Semi-Final and Final Round will fall under these criteria. The accommodation fee is Rs. 800/- (Eight Hundred Rupees Only) per participant, per day, which includes breakfast, dinner and transport (to and fro from campus to accommodation) but excludes lunch. Opting for accommodation is entirely optional and depends on the discretion of the participating team.

THE FEE ONCE PAID WILL NOT BE REFUNDED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
