US MIT (University of Massachusetts Institute of Technology) has developed a ‘Covid-19 contact tracing’ system. This system is inspired by Apple’s ‘Find My’ feature. This system informs the user whether other users have coronavirus around them or if they have been exposed to coronavirus patients.

Provides infected person information using Bluetooth

This automatic contact system reports whether other users are infected with the virus using a short range Bluetooth signal or ‘chirps’. This system works just like Apple’s ‘Find My’. Apple’s system helps to detect if a user’s iPhone is lost.

A person suffering from coronavirus can upload ‘chirps’ in the last 14 days. It can be scanned and matched by other users. If these ‘chirps’ are found, it means that the user is exposed to the infected person. The system then alerts the user and gives instructions to follow other medical steps.

Success in trial model

The trial of this system has been successful on the model. Researchers are now working with smartphones and software developers to make it widely applicable.
