If you’re a fan of the idea of using ChatGPT but don’t want to have to create an OpenAI account to use it, you’re in luck.
The large language model AI company announced today that for the first time, no account is needed to use ChatGPT on its website.
The move was announced in a post to the OpenAI X account alongside a screenshot that showed the website working without a user signed in. The move will be of benefit to people who don’t want to, or can’t, create an account but still want to be able to make use of the features that ChatGPT has to offer.
The change also now makes ChatGPT a more viable option for users who want to search the web and get information in a way that is similar to a traditional web search engine, such as Google. While Google does offer accounts and signing in has its benefits, no account is needed to use the main search webpage.
By allowing people to use ChatGPT without an OpenAI account, the company has lowered the barrier to entry for everyone. It opens the door to quicker, off-the-cuff research and more just by accessing the ChatGPT.com website from a browser.
Recent changes to ChatGPT have also been geared around making it behave more like a search engine, offering a new alternative to Google and others.
