A 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan on Tuesday, the United States Geological Survey said, with local authorities reporting at least three people trapped in a collapsed house in the island’s south.

The quake, which caused buildings in the capital Taipei to shake, struck at 12:17 am (1617 GMT) 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) north of Yujing district in southern Taiwan.
