DURING THE GLOBAL SOUTH NETWORK (GSN) JUDGES GUEST LECTURE SERIES

The Global South Network (GSN) invites you to its second North-South Judicial Dialogue. Honourable Justice Michail Pikramenos, President of the Hellenic Council of State (Supreme Administrative Court) of Greece  will deliver the lecture title “The Hellenic Council of State and Its Position in the European Legal Order” during the GSN Judges Guest Lecture Series on Monday 15 September 2025, 14:30 Greece time (12:30 UK time).

DISCUSSANTS:

The following judges from various jurisdictions will deliver brief initial remarks on Justice Pikramenos’s lecture:

  1. President of the Council of State (Supreme Administrative Court) of Colombia Justice Luis Alberto Alvarez Parra
  2. Honourable Justice Kari Kuusiniemi, President of the Supreme Administrative Court of Finland.
  3. Honourable Justice Yves Gounin, the Council of State (Supreme Administrative Court) of France.
  4. Honourable Justice Mahube Betty Molemela, President of the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa.
  5. Honourable Justice Mykhailo Smokovych, President of the Administrative Cassation Court, The Supreme Court of Ukraine.

Call for New Members of the Public Law Editorial Committee

The General Editors and Editorial Committee of Public Law are seeking to appoint new members of the journal’s Editorial Committee and invite expressions of interest from those who may be interested to contribute to one of the leading periodicals in the fields of constitutional, administrative and human rights law.   

We are keen to ensure that Public Law’s Editorial Committee possesses a broad range of relevant expertise and reflects the diversity of the discipline. As such, we welcome applications from outstanding candidates – including academics, practitioners, and officials – with interests and experience in any field of public law (including candidates who are not lawyers but have experience or interests in adjacent disciplines, such as political science).

Members of the Editorial Committee assist the General Editors with publication decisions relating to submitted manuscripts and are expected to help raise the international profile of the journal and to contribute to the strategic direction of Public Law via meetings of the Editorial Committee. Appointment to the Committee is unpaid and is to be for a fixed period of five years (renewable once). It is our intention to appoint up to four new members (those appointed will join the Editorial Committee in either January 2026 or January 2027).

Event: Centre for Constitutions in Context Inaugural Lecture (Online)

The newly established Centre for Constitutions in Context (CCC) at Warwick Law School (WLS) invites you to join us for our Inaugural Lecture, delivered by the renowned and influential scholar and practitioner of constitutional law, Jill Cottrell Ghai.

Jill will be discussing Context in Comparative Constitutional Law.

Date: 16 September 2025

Time: 2pm-3:30pm BST

Format: Online, via an MS Teams town hall

Educated at the LSE and Yale Law School, Jill Cottrell Ghai taught law for over 40 years at universities across the globe, including the University of Warwick. Jill also advised on the constitution-making processes of several countries, including East Timor, Nepal, Maldives, Iraq, and Somalia. Since 2008, she has played a pivotal role in promoting knowledge, and facilitating the implementation, of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, including as co-founder and, currently, chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Katiba Institute.

Book Launch: Leading Works in the History of the Constitution

The University of Worcester will be hosting a book launch on 24th September 2025  for Leading Works in the History of the Constitution which has recently been published by Routledge (see here).

Leading Works in the History of the Constitution is edited by Dr Chris Monaghan and brings together a team of contributors to analyse leading contemporary

accounts of the British Constitution with key constitutional documents and sources.

The keynote lecture, ‘Constitutions Matter’ will be delivered by The Rt Hon. the Baroness Hale of Richmond DBE, the former President of the Supreme Court, who contributed a chapter on Entick v Carrington to the book.

The keynote will be followed by a panel discussion featuring several of the contributors.

The book launch takes place on Wednesday 24th September 2025 from 1.00 – 5.15pm.

It is free to attend, and a light lunch will be provided.

The book launch will be taking place in the Charles Hastings Building, City Campus, Castle Street, Worcester, WR1 3AS.

Keynote Speaker Bio

The Rt Hon. the Baroness Hale of Richmond DBE took up appointment as President of the Supreme Court in September, 2017, succeeding Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury. This was following her appointment as Deputy President from June 2013. In October 2009 she became the first woman Justice of the Supreme Court. In January 2004, Lady Hale became the first woman Lord of Appeal in Ordinary. The first woman to be appointed to the Law Commission, Lady Hale and her team completed law reforms resulting in the Children Act 1989, the Family Law Act 1996, and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
