Amazon dipping toes in AR with smartglasses with screen: report

[ad_1]

Amazon has its hands in a lot of different pots, streaming, music streaming, e-commerce, video games, and so much more. Now it’s dipping its toes into augmented reality (AR) glasses for consumers. Accordng to a report by The Information, sources claim that the company is working on plans to release the product in late 2026 or early 2027.

The publication was told that the project is called Jayhawk, and would be AR glasses with microphones, speakers and a camera, as well as a full colour display on the inside of one of the lenses. The report indicates that Amazon is using the China-based company Meta-Bounds for the AR tech. The Information also indicates that Amazon is working on different AR glasses as well, but only for delivery drivers. Its codename is Amelia, and its focus is on productivity and aims to cut down drivers’ times. This device would reportedly launch in the second quarter of 2026, according to The Information’s source.

It looks like Amazon is trying to compete against the likes of Meta as the company is already aiming to launch a new product codenamed Hypernova, which should offer a similar AR experience. Amazon previously had Echo Frames smartglasses with tiny speakers so you can listen to music and use Amazon Alexa, so smartglasses with a display seem like the natural next step.
