May 12, 2025 – June 4, 2025 (On-site)

The internship opportunity was secured by applying directly through the office email – iyalpoorvaja.adv@gmail.com. The office usually responds to internship applications within a day.

On my first day at the Office of Iyalpari and Poorvaja Associates, I was warmly welcomed by the partners, Mr. Iyalpari and Ms. Poorvaja, who introduced me to the team and gave me an overview of the office’s work culture and the various fields the firm is currently engaged in. The environment was professional yet approachable, which made me feel comfortable right from the start.

Knowing that Ms. Poorvaja, one of the partners of the firm, is an alumna of TNNLU made me feel more relaxed and helped me build a senior-junior rapport, which enhanced my ability to work efficiently and confidently.

The office infrastructure was well-organised and efficiently maintained. The workspace had a calm, focused atmosphere with neatly arranged case files, a proper filing system, and a structured diary system for tracking cases.

The rooms were adorned with beautiful and motivational paintings and posters. I was also introduced to the associates, all of whom were cordial and willing to help, which added to the positive experience.

Overall, the welcoming nature of the team, combined with the structured and disciplined working environment, left a strong and encouraging first impression.

During my internship at the Office of Iyalpari and Poorvaja Associates, I engaged in a wide range of legal and administrative tasks that deepened my understanding of litigation and legal practice. I assisted associates in attending various courts, including the Consumer Redressal Commission, District Courts, and Family Courts, where I observed court proceedings and actively maintained and updated case diaries, filing systems, and prepared documents such as absent petitions, vakalatnamas, and certified copy applications.

My work also involved legal research and drafting on labour laws, intellectual property, and the POSH Act. I created a handbook compiling key labour law provisions and drafted blog-style articles on brand protection and trademark strategies. Proofreading legal documents in both English and Tamil was another regular responsibility.

Additionally, I supported trademark filing processes, organized and flagged case files, and helped format and segment legal content for client communication and publication. The internship also exposed me to client interactions, mediation processes, and awareness programs. This multi-faceted experience strengthened my understanding of procedural law and improved my legal research, drafting, and organizational skills.

The work environment at the Office of Iyalpari and Poorvaja Associates was professional, disciplined, and highly supportive. The team, including the partners and associates, maintained a collaborative and approachable culture that encouraged learning.

Despite the fast-paced nature of litigation work, there was a strong emphasis on mentorship and clarity in the delegation of tasks. The office was well-structured, with a neatly organised work culture, an updated case diary system, and a quiet, focused atmosphere.

I appreciated the open communication and regular feedback from both the partners and associates, which helped me improve consistently. The environment encouraged active participation and made my learning experience both comfortable and enriching.

Interning at the Office of Iyalpari and Poorvaja Associates was nothing like just shadowing lawyers or doing coffee runs. It was real, hands-on legal work. From day one, I was welcomed as part of the team and given meaningful tasks that made me feel involved rather than just present.

Every day brought something new, whether it was running to court, proofreading legal drafts, or researching tricky trademark issues. The partners and associates were genuinely supportive and took the time to explain things without making it feel like a lecture. I appreciated the trust they placed in me, which pushed me to be more responsible and confident in my work.

The best part? I never felt like ‘just an intern.’ I was learning, contributing, and growing all at once, and that’s what made this experience special.

One area that could be improved was the structure of daily tasks. Some days were packed with court visits, research, and urgent filings, while other days were comparatively light. This inconsistency sometimes affected planning and learning continuity.

A more structured daily briefing or schedule could have improved the flow. However, these challenges also taught me time management, adaptability, and the importance of self-initiative in a litigation environment. Overall, it was an amazing and rewarding internship experience.

Since I live in Coimbatore, accommodation was not an issue, and I travelled on my motorcycle to the office every day. The office is located in the heart of Coimbatore city, within a 1 KM radius of the Coimbatore District Court, making commuting easier.

For interns coming from other states or districts, there are plenty of hostels and PGs nearby. Various transportation options like Rapido, auto rickshaws, buses, and even walking are convenient due to the office’s central location.
