Noctua shows ‘Thermosiphon’ cooling for PCs in action, series production open – Research Snipers

The Austrian cooler and fan specialist Noctua not only gets into the market for all-in-one cooling solutions for the computex 2025, but also shows for the first time a running PC system that is cooled using a “thermosiphon”.

Vaporizer works – so far only with active cooling

Noctua had already presented his idea to cool a PC using a “thermosiphon” as a kind of proof of concept a year ago. On the computex 2025, the whole can now be seen in the form of a running PC system in the prototype stage. The manufacturer insists that you continue to work towards series production, but have not yet reached the corresponding stage of development.

In the long term, Noctua wants to offer a system for various different CPU base, in which a coolant evaporates in a chamber on the respective CPU and then rises via lines to a radiator in 360 mm format attached at the top of the respective housing, where it should then condense and flow back again. With the pattern shown on the computex, this approach already works, even if the radiator is still actively cooled with three noctua fans.

Still need some development work

According to Noctua, it is particularly problematic that the design of the current CPU generations with its chiplet designs ensures that the surface of the respective cooler does not heat up evenly. The resulting very strong heating can result in problems because the coolant evaporates too quickly. The necessary adjustments of the heat sinks to be attached to the CPU must be individually carried out for each processor or CPU family.

The Austrians have therefore already tested countless cooling variants, but cannot yet offer a series tire of coolers that can reliably keep all the currently available chiplet-based CPUs from the high-end range even under high loads. In addition, Noctua wants to continue to achieve an adequate cooling capacity, after all, the thermosiphon should also be able to offer the same performance with fans without moving parts – without the patterns that are shown in Taiwan’s capital Taipei on the Computex 2025 – as active cooling systems. Noctua does not provide any information about when you want to achieve this goal either this year.
