UrbanVolt, Ireland’s leading clean energy provider and the pioneer of the Solar-as-a-Service model, has signed a partnership with Blanchardstown Centre for an 815kWp rooftop solar installation – making it the largest retail solar project of its kind in Ireland.

The installation, comprising 1,630 high-efficiency solar panels, has been largely completed and will be fully operational by early October. It is expected to generate 689,593 kWh of renewable electricity annually, enough to power over 150 homes for an entire year, and will supply over 40% of Blanchardstown Centre’s total yearly electricity consumption. During peak summer months, the centre will operate entirely on solar power.

Digital screens throughout the shopping centre will display solar energy performance in real-time, to promote awareness amongst customers.

Blanchardstown Centre’s commitment to solar energy is part of its wider ESG strategy, which also includes recycling policies to ensure zero waste to landfill, a commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, the creation of dedicated pollinator plan spaces to support biodiversity and providing a number of high-powered electric vehicle charging hubs.

Justin Jacober, CEO of UrbanVolt, said: “This partnership marks a significant step towards a sustainable future for retail spaces. By integrating our solar as a service solution, Blanchardstown Centre is not only reducing its carbon footprint but also setting a new standard for what shopping centres can achieve in terms of environmental responsibility. UrbanVolt are thrilled to be part of this journey, helping to make Blanchardstown Centre a leading green and sustainable retail destination.”
