Suunto Race 2 Sports Watch

[ad_1]

Suunto is a company based in Finland, and one of its biggest products is its huge range of digital sports watches. In September 2025, the company will finally release its latest sports watch called the Suunto Race 2.

FutureFive NZ was lucky enough to review the Suunto Race 2 before its public release. We were sent the Coral Orange colour of the watch, and we were impressed by what the product offers so far.

Before anyone gets excited, the first thing you have to know about the Suunto Race 2 is that it’s a premium product, so this means it comes with a very high price. The product is set to be priced at around 500 USD, which equates to around $1000 NZD.

Anyway, the first thing you will do when you get the Suunto Race 2 is put on the strap. The straps snap onto the watch quite easily, and it’s comfortable to use. There are loads of holes on the strap, so it should be able to fit the wrists of just about anybody.

One of the more unique features of the Suunto Race 2 is the fact that you can use it in two ways. Most people will control the watch by simply using the 1.5-inch touchscreen display. The display itself is nice and clean with a resolution of 466×466 pixels, and it’s super responsive.

The other way you can control the device is by using a knob that is located on the right side of the watch. My brother actually thinks the knob is easier to control than using the touchscreen, although this is down to personal preference.

Another thing you can do is change the colour of the watch face. You can do this via the settings, or download some new watch faces by using the official Suunto app. The Suunto app should be available for both iOS and Android devices.

One of the more impressive things about the Suunto Race 2 is its excellent battery life. Reportedly, the Race 2 has a battery life of around 55 hours. This is much longer than the Samsung watch I reviewed last year.

As for the watch’s uses, there are lots of widgets for you to use. Some of the widgets that are available include weather, exercise, a map, and a compass. There are individual exercise programmes you can set the watch to. This can include things like running, walking, cycling, swimming, and loads more.

The watch allows you to pin your favourite widgets to a shortcut, but you can only pin one widget to each button. This is unlike the Samsung watch, where you can save multiple apps to a shortcut menu.

The programmes I used the most on the watch were the walking, running, and weightlifting ones. By pairing the watch with the Sunnto app, I was able to check how far I ran, my running pace, as well as my current heart rate.

Another neat feature is that the watch can also receive an email notification that is paired with the phone that you are using. I thought this was annoying, so I turned this off. However, this could be useful for other types of people out there.

While the Suunto Race 2 watch is a premium product that does most of its best functions well, it’s still out of price range for most people. If you can afford it, then I would only recommend it to people with high disposable incomes.
