FDNY Firefighter Charged in Assault on Colleague

An FDNY firefighter has been arrested following an alleged assault on a fellow firefighter at a Staten Island firehouse earlier this month.

According to multiple news sources, on the evening of August 8, 2025, an altercation occurred inside Rescue Company 5’s quarters on Clove Road in Concord, Staten Island. Firefighter Christopher Mullin, 53, is accused of pulling a chair out from under a 62-year-old firefighter during an argument. The victim reportedly fell, striking his arm and head. Prosecutors allege Mullin then punched the firefighter several times while he was on the ground, and struck him once with a chair.

The injured firefighter was transported to a local hospital with injuries to his head, hip, elbows, and hands.

Mullin surrendered to authorities on Monday, August 11, 2025. He was arraigned in Richmond County Criminal Court on four charges of:

  • Assault with Intent to Cause Physical Injury with a Weapon
  • Assault with Intent to Cause Physical Injury 3rd Degree
  • Criminal possession of a weapon 4th Degree
  • Harassment with Physical Contact 2nd Degree

The Staten Island District Attorney’s Office requested $10,000 bail, but the judge ordered Mullin released without bail.

The FDNY has suspended Mullin without pay. An FDNY spokesperson issued the following statement:

  • The safety of the brave men and women of the FDNY is our utmost priority, and behavior of this kind is unacceptable.

Mullin, a 25-year veteran of the FDNY, was previously honored with the Firefighter Thomas R. Elsasser Memorial Medal in 2017 along with his Rescue 5 crew for a lifesaving rescue. Reports indicate the victim in the August 8 incident is assigned to the same firehouse but not to Rescue 5. Alcohol was not a factor in the dispute, but the incident has drawn parallels to a 2003 incident on Staten Island at the quarters of Engine 151 and Ladder 76 that left one firefighter permanently disabled and another in prison. That incident resulted from an alcohol-fueled argument on New Year’s Eve.
