Ybarra sees Battlefield 6 as a clear winner

Mike Ybarra, long-time Xbox manager and later president of Blizzard Entertainment, has made a daring prediction for this year’s duel of the military shooters. On X he predicted that Battlefield 6 Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 would be “flattened” this year by Battlefield 6. Ybarra argues that Call of Duty had been going downhill continuously since 2016. These numbers are particularly noteworthy if you look at the history of the Battlefield series. Since the original Battlefield in 1942 from 2002, the series has been fighting for market shares against Call of Duty. While Battlefield is often praised for its large -scale battles and vehicle fights, it could never break the commercial dominance of Call of Duty. Ybarra has significant industry experience. He started his career at Microsoft in 1999 and spent almost two decades in various key positions. From 2017 to 2019 he headed as a corporate Vice President Xbox Live, Xbox Game Pass and Mixer.

In 2019, Ybarra switched to Blizzard Entertainment as the Executive Vice President and General Manager before taking over the co-line together with Jennifer O’Neal in 2021. After O’Neal’s resignation, he became the sole president until he left the company in January 2024. Today he heads the fantasy sports company Prizepicks as CEO. Ybarra specified his statement and explained that “Boot Stomp” means a better evaluation and an “urgency like never before” for the Call of Duty team. His central thesis: “Call of Duty will make more competition better, and I speak out for the fact that Battlefield does that.”
