A Refined and Focused Experience

2025 has been a major laptop review year for me, and I still have a few to finish before the year ends. But it’s also been the year for the electric scooter. The Segway Ninebot F3 is the latest electric scooter to come in for evaluation. This marks the third scooter to make it to my doorstep this year. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but considering these are the first scooters to ever come to me for review, it was a lot. The last two I reviewed came from NAVEE and now the competition has arrived in the form of the Segway Ninebot F3.

Scooters are an interesting thing. Like everything else I review, electric scooters are going to have a certain measure of subjective things to consider. I actually think scooters are pretty dang hard to review because of this. But here we are, giving it our best shot and providing you my thoughts and experiences with the Segway Ninebot F3 electric scooter. Let’s get into this review!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be sure to always wear a helmet and safety gear whenever operating a scooter or any sort of electric vehicle.

The Quick Take

Segway Ninebot F3 Review 1

With a range of over 40 miles at 9 mph. The Segway Ninebot F3 is perfect for urban dwellers who work and play within that range. You could ride all 40 miles to work, plug in, and still get back home. Getting to work on foot in the city can be a pain in the rear, and the F3 scooter aims to make life easier. Since this isn’t just your everyday run-of-the-mill scooter, you also get some perks like a smooth and responsive suspension. You also get outstanding brakes and plenty of safety features. The Segway Ninebot F3 isn’t going to come cheap, though there are often sales, and good ones at that. This is an investment and if you’re saving money on gas, public transport, vehicle maintanence, and other costs. This scooter will pay for itself in a year or less.

Nailed it

  • Sleek design, very sporty looking
  • Handlebars are at a good level for all riders and shorter riders are comfortable
  • Excellent braking system
  • Good acceleration and speed
  • Easy to fold and stow away
  • Excellent urban transport

Needs work

  • It is expensive
  • A little heavy and some may find it hard to lift

The Segway Ninebot F3 looks incredible. It has a sporty design with handlebars that aren’t as tall as the competition, so that allows for shorter riders to more easily ride it. It’s also very portable and easy to move around or stow/store away when you get to a destination. The power supply isn’t too large and easily fits in a pack or satchel.

The tubeless self-sealing tires are great and should stand up for a long time. Not having to worry about a puncture immediately is a nice thing. It allows the rider to get home or to a repair shop with little worry about safety.

Segway Ninebot F3 Review 11

The brakes are excellent with excellent stopping power, even downhill. Speaking of hills, the Segway Ninebot F3 had no problem getting up our steep grade hill in front of our home, though I will say that hills are going to impact battery life, especially steep ones. One way to mitigate it, should you need to save battery, is to walk it up steep hills. But it handles hills very well.

Overall, the Segway Ninebot F3 is just about the perfect urban mover. I don’t live in Chicago or New York. I am originally from Chicago but love my rural living now. But I digress. Even though I don’t live in a city, I can see this being a handy transport for office workers or anyone working in an urban area. There are bike paths and lanes in cities that you can use this on, and it will get you there faster than walking and even, in some cases, faster than public or private transport. It’s also just fun to ride, so suburban and rural riders can simply have fun.

Design/Comfort

Segway Ninebot F3 Review 9

I really love the look of the Segway Ninebot F3. It has a sporty and sleek look to it, and the black and red color scheme gives it some attitude. What really makes this scooter the better choice over the other two scooters I’ve reviewed are the handlebars bars. These handle bars don’t sit up as high and that makes it more comfortable for riders in the 5 foot range to be comfortable. My youngest is around five foot two, and she was more comfortable on the Segway Ninebot F3 than on the other scooters she tried.

The grips are not super cushy but are comfortable and easy to hold, and the thumb accelerator is in an excellent spot and gives you some good control over the throttle. The brake lever is nicely placed and comfortable to use even with smaller hands.

Segway Ninebot F3 Review 5

The platform is plenty wide for even my size 12 kickers, and the weight limit sits at 265 lbs. I am a bit heavier than 265, and I rode the Segway Ninebot F3 a few times, but not more than a few times. They performed just fine and felt comfy to ride, though I am not used to scooters and was a bit wobbly. My kids took to it like fish to water.

The tires and suspension are very comfortable. The suspension system doesn’t “look” as fancy as some other scooters, but it works just as well. The ride was smooth, and it took light bumps and cracks just fine.

The design is sporty, attractive, and eye-catching. The materials used are all premium, and the build quality was excellent. The ability to fold the Segway Ninebot F3 down and transport it is a great addition. I can see office workers bringing these to their cubicles and tucking them away to charge for the ride home. Overall, this is a cool-looking design, and it is very sturdy and should hold up for a long time.

App/Software

The app is simple to use; it allows you to connect to the Segway Ninebot F3 for firmware updates as well as battery and performance information. Some users may not like the fact that you are required to have the app and register to get these scooters going. I don’t mind it, but some users may not like the hassle of yet another app and login.

App connectivity has been solid, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections being solid. I never had an issue, and once you get these set up and going. I found that the phone doesn’t even need to be present to use the scooter. My kids used this all the time without me having to be right there with them.

One of the better features of this app is the built-in navigation that can be shown on the scooter display. This is great for urban riding and useful for not getting lost. Really a brilliant feature.

Overall, I think the app is useful and needed for firmware upgrades. But I can see how some users may not like the extra layer of technology and software. Doesn’t bother me in this instance, but it does on some other devices, so I can empathize.

Performance/Battery

Before we discuss the Segway Ninebot F3 battery and performance, it needs to be said. The more aggressively you ride this thing and the more challenging the terrain, the faster the battery will drain. If you ride the Segway Ninebot F3 conservatively, you will get the best battery life from it. So battery life is so very dependent on the habits and actions of the rider. The weight and height of the rider are also going to be factors. So use my observations as a tool, not matter-of factly.

Segway says you should be able to get about 44 miles of range out of the F3 riding it at 9 mph in speed mode “E.” So conservatively and not going top speed. The faster you ride and the mode in which you ride are going to play into your battery life. I did not test these out in an urban environment, and I am sure battery life will be different in those situations given traffic and pedestrians.

We used the Segway Ninebot F3 on bike trails and around our own neighborhood with plenty of hills and other terrain. I found my kids could get around 39 miles of range with mixed modes and speeds. This range did fluctuate up and down, but it was always different because of the different situations we put them in. So expect battery life to be fairly close to advertised, but know it will be different from one day to the next.

Segway Ninebot F3 Review 10

As for the Segway Ninebot F3 performance metrics, they’re fantastic. It has a max speed of 20 mph, but going downhill is going to give you either a heart attack or a load of fun. You can get this thing moving well past 20 mph with gravity. We chose to be safe and use proper braking on hills.

The suspension on the Segway Ninebot F3 looks different from the other scooters I reviewed, but it performs brilliantly. The front hydraulic shock absorber and rear elastomer shock absorber do a fantastic job of delivering a cushy and comfortable ride along pavement, sidewalks, bike paths, and even grass. I would not recommend riding the Segway Ninebot F3 on gravel; at least we didn’t try because I was afraid of slipping with the slimmer and harder tires. But we did go through grass, dirt, and small grassy hills, and the suspension system worked amazingly well.

Segway Ninebot F3 Review 12

The front disc brakes and rear electronic braking system do an excellent job of stopping and slowing you down. I’m not certain what the lifespan is on the disc brakes, but that may be something to consider. I was very comfortable allowing my kids to ride this scooter, knowing it would stop them when needed.

The deck is plenty wide for even my big feet, and the Segway Ninebot F3 can handle riders up to 265 pounds, so these will serve a wide range of users well. The array of LED lighting for safety is fantastic. You have LED blinkers, LED brake lights, LED headlights, and reflectors for night safety.

Overall, the battery life and performance on the F3 are fantastic. As far as I’m concerned, battery and performance are important, and Segway did a brilliant job of making these the best they could.

Price/Value

The Segway Ninebot F3 is priced right at a grand. But don’t despair! These are often on sale on Segway’s website as well as on Amazon, so check for those sales! This is a pricey purchase, undoubtedly! But it’s also an investment. For those looking for just a fun time with only a few uses a year, this might not make sense. For those who will use this more than a few times a week, especially for urban transportation. This makes total sense, and the Segway Ninebot F3 will pay for itself quickly. I think the value is here.

Wrap-Up
