Singtel share price hit 8-year high!

Lifetime Membership It’s the return of the king! On 12 June 2025, Singtel share price stormed to 8-year high as the counter crossed the $4.00. Year-to-date, Singtel share price surged by a mighty 24%, making it one of the best STI performers. The robust performance of Singtel share price is certainly impressive given that the market is in sluggish form against the backdrop of US trade tariffs and persistent high interest rate environment.

The supersonic form of Singtel share price in 2025 should be attributed to the turnaround of its financial performance. The recent sale of 1.2% of its direct stake in regional associate Airtel for $2.0 billion also played a part in the bullish form of Singtel share price.

However, conventional wisdom indicates that what goes up must come down. In this context, question now is whether Singtel share price can sustain its bullish form for the rest of 2025?

Currently, Singtel in entering its season of final dividend payout. Based on past years’ data, Singtel share price never fail to correct between late July to August, the traditional period after the issuance of Singtel final dividend. In my view, the correction of Singtel share price should be good opportunity to accumulate at reasonable entry levels.

The total core dividend amounted to 12.3 cents per share. Together with the value realisation dividend of 4.7 cents, the aggregate ordinary dividends for the current financial year ended 31 March 2025 increased by 13% to 17.0 cents per share.

For the record, the highest Singtel dividend payout was in 2011 when the management sprang a surprise special dividend of $0.10 and led to total dividend of $0.258 for that year. The second highest dividend issued was $0.205 in 2018 when another special dividend of $0.03 was paid out because of the divestment of NetLink NBN Trust.

Whilst the latest dividend has not restored to the pre-COVID levels, it represents a major feat for CEO Yuen Kuan Moon who has been instrumental in leading one of Singtel’s most ambitious transformations amid accelerated digitalisation and disruption in the telecommunications industry. In fact, I would go so much as to claim that the current bullish form of Singtel share price should be attributed to his effort in turning around Singtel’s business performance, instead of the lure of the dividend.

In my opinion, CEO Yuen Kuan Moon has been disciplined in executing his three new growth pivots – harnessing 5G, repositioning NCS for overseas ICT expansion and unlocking value of infrastructure assets. During this period, Singtel has also managed to dispose most of the loss-making assets under Group Digital Life (GDL), which raked up millions of losses every year since 2013. Over the years, the accumulated losses amounted to nearly $1 billion. Based on Singtel’s business performances for the past three years, I think the CEO has done a great job in reviving Singtel’s business, hence the strong momentum in Singtel share price in recent years.
