Multiple state officials in North Carolina including Attorney General Jeff Jackson and Secretary of State Elaine Marshall are sounding the alarm on crypto ATM scams. In a press conference in Wilmington, they discussed how the elderly are increasingly being targeted by these scams, according to a report by WECT.

“These bitcoin kiosks did not exist around North Carolina two years ago,” Jackson said during the conference. “These scams are extremely convincing. What makes this bitcoin kiosk element so dangerous is that it makes the investigation and the recovery of the funds much more difficult.”

Jackson is crafting an initiative to place warning signs next to the ATMs to help combat fraud.
