Canada’s Digital Extremes says Warframe on Nintendo Switch 2 is coming — eventually

London, Ont.’s Digital Extremes says it’s planning to release a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version of its popular Warframe game, but there’s a catch.

Speaking during a media preview ahead of its Warframe-focused TennoCon convention, the developer said it doesn’t yet have a dev kit for the Switch 2. This means that the team can’t officially start working on a Switch 2 version until Nintendo sends one. It should be noted that many other developers have noted they don’t yet have Switch 2 dev kits, which isn’t unheard of for a recently released console.

It remains to be seen when DE might receive a dev kit. The team noted that it’s excited to get its hands on one to offer an improved version of Warframe over the existing Switch version, which launched in November 2018. That version can also be played on the Switch 2, although you’ll have to wait until a dedicated version for the new system for proper tech improvements.

In related TennoCon news, DE confirmed that an Android closed beta of Warframe will launch this fall, while the next big narrative chapter for the game, The Old Peace, will also drop in the fall.
