Apple has tried to appeal the DOJ’s antitrust case in the US, but it didn’t work

If this doesn’t ring a bell to some of you, perhaps it’s because it has been over half a year at this point since Apple appealed this. It happened towards the end of November last year, actually. Nothing occurred since then, but now we know that a trial will take place.

US District Judge Julien Neals of New Jersey denied Apple. The DOJ is going to fight Apple’s “walled garden” approach to smartphone software. Apple did react to the dismissal by saying, “We believe this lawsuit is wrong on the facts and the law, and we will continue to vigorously fight it in court.”

This lawsuit was originally filed in March last year

This lawsuit was originally filed way back in March 2024 by the DOJ and several US states. They’re saying that Apple created a monopoly over app software, which is a similar accusation Apple is facing in the EU, actually.

The lawsuit alleges that Apple’s restrictions and fees placed on developers, as well as limits on third-party devices and services, are in direct violation of antitrust laws. Apple denied the allegations promptly, as expected.

At this point in time, we’re not sure when will this trial take place. One thing is for sure, we’re it’s coming. What follows is Apple’s answer to the DOJ, and a period in which both Apple and the DOJ will provide documents, expert testimony, and depositions. Following that, we’ll get to the trial phase.

We’ll have to wait quite a bit before the trial takes place

It is projected that we’ll have to wait until 2028 before the trial begins, if not later than that. That is not exactly right around the corner, but that’s what you get when it comes to proceedings like these.
