Apple Watch Ultra 3 Tipped For Release This Year With Two New Upgrades

Apple is expected to announce and release the Apple Watch Ultra 3 later this year, with two big upgrades being added to the mix for potential buyers.

Writing in the weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman noted that Apple will update the Apple Watch with its third iteration, adding satellite connectivity to the mix for the first time.

The move would allow people to send and receive text messages even when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity available. Such a feature would be useful for people on long treks, for example.

Gurman also believes that Apple will add 5G support to the Apple Watch Ultra 3, upgrading over the 4G LTE technology that is currently offered across the Apple Watch wearable lineup.

It’s believed that other upgrades will include an S10 chip or newer for faster performance, as well as a wide-angle OLED display similar to that which debuted in the Apple Watch Series 10 last year. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is also expected to gain support for a faster refresh rate when in wrist-down mode, again, like the Apple Watch Series 10.

This refreshed model will be the first time that Apple has updated the Apple Watch Ultra lineup significantly since the Apple Watch Ultra arrived in 2023. Last year’s Apple Watch Ultra 2 added a black titanium version, but the internals were identical to the previous models.

Apple is expected to debut the Apple Watch Ultra 3 during an event in September, likely alongside the unveiling of another watch as well as the iPhone 17 lineup.
