Laing will take the reins of the division within PartnerRe where the reinsurance company sources, structures and shares reinsurance risks with third-party investors through a range of insurance-linked securities (ILS) vehicles and funds.

Andrew Hughes joined PartnerRe back in 2021 from his previous role at Hiscox ILS, taking on the role of CEO Third Party Capital, then becoming CEO of PartnerRe Capital Management when that dedicated ILS-focused division was formed.

Hughes is now departing the company and Bermuda, where he has worked for a decade.

As a result of which, PartnerRe has promoted portfolio manager Andrew Laing to the new role of Head of PartnerRe Capital Management.

Laing will step into the new position from October 1st.

The company said, “We are pleased to announce that Andrew Laing has been appointed as Head of PartnerRe Capital Management, effective October 1st, succeeding Andrew Hughes.”

Laing has worked at PartnerRe since 2008, initially as an underwriter with a property catastrophe reinsurance focus.

He became the reinsurers’ Head of Cyber and Emerging Risks in 2020 and then moved to the PartnerRe Capital Management division as a portfolio manager in early 2021.

Philippe Meyenhofer, CEO PartnerRe, commented, “Andrew Laing has been a key contributor to our Capital Management team, bringing deep technical expertise, strong collaboration, and 17 years of experience across PartnerRe. I’m confident he will continue to drive the growth and success of this important part of our business.

“I would also like to thank Andrew Hughes for his leadership and dedication over the years and wish him the very best.”

The PartnerRe Capital Management division of the company securitizes portfolios of private reinsurance contracts underwritten by PartnerRe, enabling institutional investors to participate in the underwriting returns of the reinsurance market.
