In a world where access to power has become critical for the world’s technology ambitions, not least through power-hungry data centres and artificial intelligence, the pair are leveraging real-time data insights on the power grid to create parametric triggers for risk transfer.

Adaptive Insurance launched in 2024 as a tech-focused parametric insurance platform, with an initial power outage focused GridProtect parametric product designed to fill gaps in traditional insurance coverage.

Now, the the integration of artificial intelligence sensor specialist Whisker Labs’ Ting Insights into its flagship product makes that parametric power outage insurance even more responsive to protection buyers needs, with real-time data furnishing the insights required for the parametric trigger.

The parametric GridProtect product will now provide buyers parametric insurance coverage by leveraging Ting Insights, which is a US nationwide network of over one million AI-enabled sensors that monitor the health of the electrical power grid.

“By leveraging real-time, hyper-local power outage data from Ting Insights, we can deliver speedier financial support to businesses when they need it most,” explained Arik Yelovitch, CTO and Co-Founder of Adaptive. “But our customers don’t just want insurance. They want to know it works when it matters.

“Ting Insights helps us deliver on that promise with better data, fewer disputes, and the kind of confidence that only comes from seeing the grid clearly, in real time.”

“Better data is good for everyone,” added Bob Marshall, CEO of Whisker Labs. “With Ting Insights, we bring clarity where it’s most needed — when the grid is struggling to deliver safe, reliable power. Adaptive is now using that intelligence to create a far better experience for customers who need fast, fair coverage when the power goes out.”

It’s effectively a responsive business interruption product for businesses exposed to power loss and electrical grid failure.

With tech firms investing heavily into data centre build-outs, while other industries invest into tech and AI initiatives, access to power is becoming critical to their ambitions, while the roster of potential clients for parametric power outage insurance products keeps growing.
