Virgin Plus, Koodo increase 60GB plan by $5 to match Fido

Virgin Plus and Koodo increased their respective 60GB plans by $5/mo, bringing the price in line with what Fido charges for its 60GB plan.

All three wireless providers now charge $45/mo for the 60GB plan (after autopay discounts). Notably, Virgin Plus already briefly raised its 60GB plan to $45 earlier in June, only to immediately reverse course.

Virgin Plus $45/60GB plan.

Virgin’s plan caps data speed at up to 150Mbps and includes unlimited Canada-wide calling and international texting sent from Canada. The plan also features unlimited calling from Canada to the U.S., Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, and the U.K.

Koodo $45/60GB plan.

Koodo’s plan caps data speed at up to 100Mbps and includes unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting. At the time of writing, Koodo didn’t have international texting or calling like Virgin. Instead, Koodo offers a free perk with its plans. Perks vary from plan to plan, but common options include rollover data, international texting, and premium voicemail.

The price increase from Virgin and Koodo is quite disappointing. The previous $40/60GB price was already a tough sell given offers from the likes of Public Mobile and Freedom Mobile, but the new $45 price makes it even worse.

Both Public and Freedom now have $46/80GB plans with Canada/U.S./Mexico roaming built in and faster 5G data. Why save a dollar to get a significantly worse plan? And that’s not even getting into the $36/60GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico plan, which is better and cheaper.
