OPPO launches A5 Series in New Zealand with focus on durability

OPPO has introduced its new A5 Series smartphones in New Zealand, highlighting a focus on durability, performance, and value.

The new range comprises the A5 5G and A5 4G, both aimed at providing feature-rich options for users seeking reliability in their everyday technology. They join the A5 Pro 5G, which was launched earlier in June, offering an expanded selection for consumers.

Focus on durability

According to OPPO, the A5 Series caters to New Zealanders requiring dependable devices for various aspects of daily life, including those on job sites, outdoors, or searching for a robust first phone for children.

“Whether someone’s on the tools, outdoors in all conditions or buying a reliable first phone for their kids, the A Series is a dependable, great-value choice that’s made to last,” says Halim. “It’s built to survive backpacks, pockets and the occasional drop – and it keeps up with your hustle, whatever your day looks like.”

The A5 5G and A5 4G are constructed to withstand the rigours of everyday life. Both models offer splash and dust resistance, with the A5 5G and A5 4G rated at IP65 and the A5 Pro 5G rated at IP69. Their build also features ergonomic curves and a stylish finish.

Display and camera features

Both new models use large 6.7-inch LCD HD+ displays, with the A5 5G supporting a 120Hz refresh rate and the A5 4G a 90Hz refresh rate for smooth visual performance. The camera systems include an 8MP front camera on the A5 5G and a 5MP front camera on the A5 4G. Both feature a 50MP Ultra-Clear rear camera paired with a 2MP depth camera, intended to provide versatile photography functionality.

OPPO has included its 300% Ultra Volume Mode in these models, targeting clarity in both visuals and sound, even in challenging environments such as outdoors or on busy worksites.

Battery life and charging

Each model is equipped with a 6,000mAh battery and supports 45W SUPERVOOC Flash Charging, designed to reduce downtime and allow users to spend less time connected to chargers. OPPO reports that its battery technology has undergone testing for 1,700 full charge cycles—the equivalent of around five years of regular use—while maintaining at least 80% battery health.

Both hardware and software durability are emphasised by the inclusion of five years of operating system updates and six years of security updates, something OPPO claims surpasses competitors in this market segment, who typically offer two years or less of updates.

Performance and storage

The A5 Series offers practical performance for everyday tasks, supported by capable chipsets. The A5 5G features a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, while the A5 4G uses a Snapdragon 6s Gen1 processor. Storage and memory options include up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage on the 5G model and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage on the 4G version.

Pricing and availability

In New Zealand, the recommended retail prices for the A5 Series are as follows: the A5 5G is available at NZD $349, the A5 4G at NZD $299, and the A5 Pro 5G at NZD $499. Another variant, the A5x, will be available at NZD $229 from early July.

OPPO says the A5 Series is available for purchase online and through its official retailers.
