What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My son and bonus daughter. I wanted to be there for every milestone in their life, and I didn’t want my weight to be a factor.
How did you change your eating habits?
I did not want to give up the foods I love completely, but I had to learn the importance of moderation. Instead of cutting out my favorite foods entirely, I focused on portion control and making healthier choices most of the time. For example, I started including more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in my meals while limiting things like sugary snacks and fried foods.
I also tried to cook at home more often, which helped me keep track of ingredients and control my portions. While I didn’t follow a strict diet plan or program, I aimed to maintain a balanced approach to eating, enjoying treats occasionally but ensuring that most of my meals were nutritious and well-balanced. This helped me develop better habits without feeling deprived.
What is your workout routine?
Although I don’t work out as often as I should, I enjoy activities like walking and biking. For me, I get the most out of exercise when I’m doing something I genuinely enjoy, so much so that it doesn’t even feel like a workout. Whether it’s going for a long walk in my neighborhood or hitting the bike trail with my husband, I find that staying active is much easier when I’m having fun. This approach helps me stay consistent and makes physical activity a natural and enjoyable part of my routine.

How often did you work out?
I try to get some form of exercise in at least twice a week. Even on days when it’s just a simple walk or a bike ride, I make sure to stay active regularly to maintain my momentum.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My highest weight was 358 pounds, and my current weight is 155 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’7″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
My journey began in September 2019, and my transition is still ongoing. I am continuously working toward reaching and maintaining my ultimate goal weight of 150 pounds, embracing each step along the way as part of a lifelong commitment to health and wellness.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Yes, I had the duodenal switch surgery in December 2019. While this procedure has been an incredible and powerful life-changing tool, I also had to put in the effort to retrain my mindset and rebuild my relationship with food mentally. The surgery was just the beginning of my journey, and the fundamental transformation came from the work I committed to every day.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is the importance of patience. I came to understand that meaningful results don’t happen overnight and that staying dedicated and consistent over time is key to reaching my goals. This mindset has helped me stay motivated and keep moving forward, even when progress feels slow.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
My advice for women who want to lose weight is to have the audacity to believe in yourself and your ability to succeed. Take things one step at a time, and remember that setbacks are a natural part of the journey. No matter how many times you stumble, give yourself grace and keep trying. Persistence and self-compassion are powerful tools for lasting success.
