The smash hit card game Balatro, which took the world by storm last year, is one of the best Canadian gaming success stories we’ve had in a while. While the creator has remained elusively out of the spotlight, they recently shared a fun Easter egg for Canadians.
The game’s ‘Ride the Bus’ joker is modelled after the bus stop signs in Regina, Saskatchewan—specifically, one near their old apartment.
Pointless Balatro lore: When I started Balatro dev I was living in my hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan. I had a bus stop outside my apartment (similar to the one in this image) and I based the art of ‘Ride the Bus’ on that bus stop! pic.twitter.com/4bzVkdbzhs

Balatro has sold over 5 million copies since its release. It’s super fun and a perfect mobile game, in my opinion. I played it for hours and hours when it came to the iPhone last year. However, the game is available on pretty much every platform, including Android, PC, Switch, Xbox, and PS5.
While the dev doesn’t post that often, he has shared a few other interesting tidbits about the game’s development. You can check out his whole Twitter feed for more behind-the-scenes peeks.
