Irish veterinary research and development company, TriviumVet, has been acquired by US-based PBI-Gordon. The acquisition represents a “substantial” deal in the veterinary sector, the Irish company said.

TriviumVet will remain in Ireland, growing its R&D team in the country. As part of the acquisition, the Irish company’s animal health therapeutics will be commercialised in partnership with the US group’s Pegasus Laboratories, a veterinary pharmaceutical company.

The Waterford-based animal therapeutics company was founded in 2015 by serial entrepreneur Louise Grubb and Tom Brennan and develops treatments for chronic diseases in companion animals.

Grubb previously founded NutriScience and Q1 Scientific while Brennan is also the co-founder of EirGen Pharma.

TriviumVet recently received approval from the US Food and Drugs Administration and the European Medicines Agency for a variety of new animal drug therapies, including for feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, treatment of gastrointestinal disease and neuropathic pain in dogs.

“This acquisition is a proud moment for the entire TriviumVet team and for Irish innovation,” said Grubb.

“It validates our vision of building globally relevant veterinary therapeutics from Ireland, and we are excited to see our products reach veterinarians and pet owners worldwide through PBI-Gordon and Pegasus’s commercial strength.”

Steve Clifford, the president and CEO of PBI-Gordon, said: “TriviumVet’s pioneering R&D efforts and entrepreneurial spirit align perfectly with our mission to advance animal health.

“We are delighted to welcome the team to the PBI-Gordon family and look forward to bringing their novel therapies to market.”

In 2022, Q1 Scientific, which provides stability storage services for the life sciences sector, was acquired by US-based global contract development and manufacturing company Cambrex. In 2024, Q1 Scientific opened a new facility in North California.
