Speculation begins that MacBook Pro moving entirely to M5 chips
Apple is preparing to release new MacBook Pro models later this year equipped with the latest M5 chips.
These updates are expected to focus mainly on performance improvements rather than significant design changes. Sources point to a launch window between October and November 2025, matching Apple’s typical product release schedule. The redesigned 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pros will likely include the full spectrum of M5 chips, from the base M5 to the powerful M5 Max. These chips are expected to be produced using TSMC’s advanced third-generation 3nm process.
Although the performance improvements are expected to be modest, Apple is positioning the M5 series as a major step forward in the Apple Silicon roadmap.
This follows the successful launch of the M4-powered MacBook Air in March 2025, which was positively received and boosted Mac sales. The new MacBook Pro is expected to further solidify Apple’s position in the professional market.
Those expecting a major design overhaul may have to wait longer. Reports suggest that Apple is reserving more substantial hardware upgrades, such as a thinner body and an OLED display, for a later refresh, possibly in 2026. This year’s MacBook Pros are expected to retain the existing Liquid Retina XDR display and overall design language.
There are also indications that Wi-Fi 7 support will be introduced to align with upcoming iPhone releases, although this is still unconfirmed. Apple will likely maintain the base configuration of 16GB of combined memory that was introduced with the M4 models, due to the increasing memory requirements of AI-driven applications.
According to rumours, the new MacBook Pro models will appear along with an M5-powered iPad Pro, also expected later this year. For those who do not need an immediate upgrade, it may be worth waiting for these new releases.
