Microsoft is laying off approximately 6,000 employees across its various divisions worldwide, marking a three percent reduction in its total workforce.
This would appear to be the tech giant’s largest round of layoffs since 2023 when it axed 10,000 employees. “We continue to implement organizational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace,” said Microsoft in a statement given to various press outlets, including The Verge and CNBC. The Verge adds that the job cuts will affect “all levels” at Microsoft, including LinkedIn and some international offices.
MobileSyrup has reached out to Microsoft Canada to see what impact the layoffs have had on its Canadian workforce and will update this story once a response has been received. Last year, the company closed multiple Xbox studios, including Halifax-based Alpha Dog (Mighty Doom).
Last June, Microsoft confirmed it had 228,000 employees around the world.
