Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 Review

Techaeris Rated 8.9/10

I get numerous laptops that are chock-full of high-end specs at high-end prices. The 16″ Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 doesn’t have the highest specs, though you do have some configuration options, but the price tag is also not going to bust your wallet. This 2-in-1 laptop has some great options and good features for the general user who doesn’t want or need high refresh rate displays or crazy bright nit levels.

Lenovo makes a wide range of laptops for a wide range of users. The Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 sits in the space for general users who don’t require high-end specs. Don’t take that the wrong way, though. While this Gen 10 laptop doesn’t have super high-end specs, it is certainly capable of getting the job done for most people. This is an excellent laptop for students and users who aren’t using creative apps or heavy business software. Let’s get into this review!

The Quick Take

Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 review 4

The 16″ Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 I had here for review, sports a 2K 60Hz IPS display, 2-in-1 versatility, and fantastic battery life. This isn’t a laptop for someone looking for a very bright screen, high refresh rate, or pro level performance. What this laptop does well are the basic things that general users who browse, email, do social media, handle documents, and also want some level of content consumption do on the daily. I’d recommend the Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 to parents who need a solid option for their kids or an older user who just wants the basics, with a large screen.

  • Good battery life

Needs work

  • 60Hz refresh rate
  • Low brightness display at 300 nits

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 is the “basics” laptop for the general user. It’s not going to break the bank and is still going to provide the essentials for the general user who wants a 2-in-1. However, if you don’t need a 2-in-1 and can go down to a 14″ display, there are other Lenovo options on the market that are going to give you more of a punch. Something like the Lenovo Slim 7i 14″ Aura will be an excellent choice, with a much nicer display and a bit more power. That doesn’t make the Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 1 a bad laptop, at this price, this laptop isn’t a bad choice. But you could do better with other Lenovo laptops at a slightly higher price. But budgets are a thing and if this is in your budget, then you’re getting a good laptop.

Design

Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 review 2

Lenovo has been sticking with a design language that is similar across their line of laptops. The Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 sticks to this design as well as the color of Luna Gray. The top of the Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 is fairly plain with the Lenovo logo center and glossy.

The bottom of the Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 has a fan vent across the back portion with a long rubber foot. There are also two more rubber feet toward the front with two speakers flanking those. There are seven screws holding the back on.

The front edge of the Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 has a lip where the camera module is housed. This laptop cannot be opened with one finger as the hinge is very stiff. But this isn’t a bad thing, the hinge is stiff due to the 2-in-1 features. So it’s better that the hinge be stiff.

Along the left side of the laptop you’ll find an HDMI port, Thunderbolt/USB-C port, and headphone jack. Along the right side you’ll find a USB-A port, Thunderbolt/USB-C port, microSD card slot, and power button. The power button is not flush or recessed and does sit ck up a bit, which some people have complained about. Not a huge deal to me, but I know some don’t like this.

Opening the Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 revels the 16″ display with IR/webcam at the top and a nice edge to edge glass design.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 review 5

On the deck is the backlit keyboard, which is comfortable and nice to type on, as well as a long speaker bar at the very top. The trackpad is off-center and is a diving board style glass trackpad, it’s nice to use and responsive. The keyboard also has a full size number pad. There is a fingerprint sensor on the wrist rest area, which is nice to have if you prefer not to use your face to login.

Overall, the design of the Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 sticks to the general look of the Lenovo laptop lineup. It doesn’t have some of the flair or small and premium accents that some higher end Lenovo laptops have. But it looks really impressive. I will add, it is a bit heavy, so keep that in mind if you travel a lot.

Display

Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 review 10

There are numerous things to like about the Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10, but the display is one area, I think, it falls short. It’s not even that it’s a horrible display, it’s just that it punches lower than it should. Before I start into the dislikes, let’s just talk about some of the good points of this display.

The 16″ size is a must for some users. I usually prefer a 16″ display, but I have found that I can get by with a 15.3″ display, like what the Lenovo ThinkPad X9 has. But I do understand when some users prefer a larger display, and this has that.

The 2-in-1 features are also one of the better features of the Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10. Having the ability to use this in tablet, tent, stand, and notebook modes. There’s a massive amount of versatility and options in the way you use this laptop. Many users love these features and the versatility. You can also use a Lenovo Yoga Pen with this laptop, giving it even more versatility.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 review 6

The colors on this display are also very nice, they are true to life, not oversaturated. The black levels are decent, and the whites are crisp and clean with text that looks excellent.

Where I have an issue with this particular display is in the refresh rate and the brightness. Though, I will say that the refresh rate isn’t as big a deal to me as it would be to others. This 60Hz refresh rate is typical of laptops made for the general user. Most general users won’t notice a massive difference between 60, 90, and 120Hz refresh rate. Unless they’ve used higher refresh rate displays and are used to those. Just be aware that if you intend to do gaming or anything that moves quickly across the screen, the refresh rate is fairly low on this laptop.

The more serious issue, for me, is that we’re only getting a 300 nit screen here. I really do prefer displays with at least 500 nits of brightness, 400 is my absolute lowest preference. The Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 300 nits is a bit weak in bright lighting situations and outdoors. Plus, there is a good amount of glare on the glass. This makes for some usability issues outdoors and in very bright lighting conditions. The display is still usable, but be aware that it may struggle a bit in bright lighting and sunlight.

Overall, the display has its pros and cons. It depends on what you want and what you’re willing to tolerate or give up. The 16″ size and 2-in-1 features are absolute gold and the colors are nice as is the contrast and white balance. The refresh rate and the brightness are where I feel this laptop could be improved.

Software

Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 review 9

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 is running Windows 11 Home, and there’s not a lot to say about Windows in general. It’s gotten better over the years, and I actually now prefer it over macOS. I actually think macOS has gone backwards and Windows is going forwards.

There are some AI-centric and Co-Pilot sorts of software that are worth noting.

  • AI Integration: The Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 is among the army of AI-focused laptops that feature CoPilot. Microsoft believes that its AI-powered companion enhances productivity by assisting with tasks, providing helpful suggestions, and improving user interaction with the device.
  • Better App Performance: This new chipset, with an integrated GPU and NPU, is supposed to improve battery efficiency but also performance, and app performance.
  • AI Creative Tools: The Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 features AI-powered enhancements in its software toolkit. Apps like Microsoft Paint have been upgraded with AI capabilities, which give the app more power in image manipulation and creation.
  • Battery Optimization: New software helps the Lunar Lake chipset enhance the battery life of the Lenovo IdeaPad 5X 2-in-1. This includes efficient power management that complements the hardware design for prolonged use without needing a charge.

Overall, great software experience from Microsoft, Lenovo, and the Intel team.

Performance

Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 review 8

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 I have for review is sporting the new Lunar Lake processor from Intel, now called Intel Core Ultra 7 (256V). I have used these processors now for the past 7 to 8 months on different laptops, and they are fantastic. These new Intel processors really do a lot to boost performance and battery life, with these new batches of Lenovo laptops really benefitting from them. Here’s a bit more background on the new Intel Core Processors, as provided by Intel.

The Intel® Core™ Ultra-mobile processors deliver the next generation of performance to the laptop experience. They are optimized for premium, thin, and powerful laptops, featuring 3D performance hybrid architecture, advanced AI capabilities, and available with up to Intel Arc graphics. These processors also support advanced features such as Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and PCIe 5.0, enabling faster data transfer speeds and improved connectivity (hardware support varies by configuration).

Intel Core Ultra Processors also feature accelerated AI capabilities. Whether you’re working, collaborating, creating, or playing, these processors deliver three dedicated engines (CPU, GPU, and NPU) to help unlock the power of AI and enable highperformance low-power processing. Intel® AI Boost is an integrated AI engine for low-power AI acceleration and CPU/GPU off-load, while Intel® Gaussian & Neural Accelerator processes AI speech and audio applications while simultaneously freeing up CPU resources for overall system performance and responsiveness.

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, but you should be able to configure up to 32GB or find a pre-built with 32GB. Combined with Intel’s new Core Ultra series, Intel Arc Graphics, and LPDDR5X RAM, the Yoga 7i does an impressive job in performance for daily tasks and use.

I didn’t push the system with DaVinci Resolve video editing or heavy Affinity Photo editing, but I suspect the buyer of this laptop isn’t using many graphic intensive programs. I would certainly not recommend the Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 for heavy gaming. Maybe some light gaming would be fine, but it may not be so smooth with a 60Hz refresh rate display.

Overall, the performance is what I would expect from a mid-laptop. It’s great for normal everyday users, but heavy users of heavy programs should look into the Slim 7i or X9 series of Lenovo laptops.

Battery Life

Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 review 7

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 battery life, claimed by Lenovo, is 15 hours and the battery also comes with 70Wh Rapid Charge Express charging, which gives you 5.5 hours of battery life in 15 minutes. Battery life will be highly dependent on each user and how they use the laptop and what settings they choose for optimization.

I always leave my settings on Windows at Balanced, and I suspect most users will as well. and I always have my brightness to full, not adaptive. This is mostly doing work related things, email, light photo editing, writing on WordPress, social media, YouTube content, and web browsing. I didn’t do anything heavy like video editing, but I did do some light photo editing and some AI photo creation.

Overall, I was able to pull just over 13 hours of battery life from the Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 with my normal daily use. That’s not bad battery life, but there are other Lenovo laptops that do get better battery life, they cost more, but that is a consideration.

Speakers/Audio/Camera

Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 review 1

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 has four two-watt Dolby Atmos speakers are actually pretty decent. They’re not anything special, but they get the job done. Especially for video conferencing, podcasts, and any sort of voice content. This will not be a home theater level of sound, so expect any movie and TV content to be thin on the bottom end. The mids are just okay when it comes to movie and TV content.

The microphones seem to work well for video conferencing, no reported oddities on that front. The FHD (1080p) webcam, which comes with a privacy shutter, is also just decent. It’s not the worst I’ve seen, and at least laptop makers are starting to put 1080p cams in their laptops. It works, and you get some of the effects like blurring backgrounds and whatnot. Overall, the speakers, audio, and camera are just all pretty mid. None of it is bad, none of it is blowing minds. It all works, pretty much exactly what the general user wants.

Price/Value

The 16″ Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 price point is slightly higher than I think it should be. Though, you can get it on sale occasionally at a more reasonable price point. I think the main selling point here is the larger 16″ display. People who want the larger display are more apt to purchase this laptop. I think the value is here, in terms of performance and battery life. The display is only 60Hz and the brightness only goes to 300 nits. So those are my two pain points with this particular device. If you’re okay with those two not being as good as they could be, then you’re getting a great laptop. Personally, I would lean more toward the Yoga Slim 7i 15.3″ instead of this, it’s a bit smaller but not by much, and it has a better 2.8K display at 500 nits.

Wrap Up

The 16″ Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Gen 10 I had here for review, sports a 2K 60Hz IPS display, 2-in-1 versatility, and fantastic battery life.
