When a parent has been ordered to pay child support for a child, there often comes a time when the parent would prefer sending the support directly to the child, rather than to the other parent. However, if you have been ordered by the court to pay child support to the other parent, you cannot pay child support directly to your child without a change in that order.
Parents paying support can file a motion with the court, asking the court to amend the child support order and allow payment to the child directly. In determining whether direct payments will be allowed, judges often consider the maturity of the child, expenses that the child may be paying directly, the living arrangements of the child, as well as other factors.
