Retired Americans: Mike Rogers’ Senate Run Is a Threat to
Social Security
Washington, D.C. — Jim Pedersen, President of the Michigan Alliance for Retired Americans, released the following statement in response to Mike Rogers’ announcement that he is running for U.S. Senate:
“How dumb does Mike Rogers think Michiganders are?
In his 2026 announcement video, Rogers claims he will protect ‘seniors’ Social Security’—despite a long track record that proves otherwise.
Just two years ago, Rogers said we must ‘rethink what retirement looks like’ and openly discussed raising the retirement age beyond 67. That’s not protection—that’s a cut to the benefits Americans work a lifetime to earn.
Mike Rogers has consistently turned his back on older Michiganders. During his time in Congress, he earned a dismal 7% lifetime pro-retiree score in the Alliance’s annual Congressional Voting Record.
He also voted to raise the Medicare eligibility age to 67, to increase out-of-pocket health care costs for seniors, and against allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices.
Michigan seniors deserve a senator who will fight for them—not someone like Mike Rogers, who has spent his career working against their interests.”
