Osaka, Japan is banning people over 65 from using the phone while at the ATM. This is part of an effort to prevent fraud, according to a report by Times of India.

Various criminal groups will call elderly individuals posing as family members, police or other people to try to convince them to withdraw or transfer cash. In 2024, there was $500 million lost in Japan due to these scams.

This rule will take effect in August.
