When you are going through chronic stress, a higher amount of cortisol will produce more sugar, triggering more insulin responsible for carrying the sugar into your cells. Insulin will also interfere with your fat cells to help build up energy storage for future threats. This energy will be mostly stored around your waist.
Then, Metabolic Syndrome is a mixture of symptoms or diseases caused by an excess of insulin in the blood due to insulin resistance and obesity. 80% of obese people and 40% of healthy weight people suffer from it.
Clinically you can diagnose it by
1) having a waist circumference of at least 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women
2) having type 2 diabetes
3) having high blood pressure
4) having high cholesterol level with low HDL (low good cholesterol) and
5) having high triglyceride level.
If you have three or more of these five criteria, you are susceptible to developing galloping atherosclerosis, which is the rapid hardening of your arteries.
So, waist circumference, overweight, obesity, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes are markers telling us that the body is submitted to significant and long-lasting stressors and is fighting to survive.
This phenomenon helps us understand why some obese people panic and start eating more when they think about dieting.
Unbelievable – at the only thought of dieting:
They unconsciously feel that if they diet, they will lose their survival mechanism such as “I can’t do a diet. I will die said a friend of mine who just had a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.”.
That is an unrealistic thought, a false perception that is often expressed in these words: we live only once; better enjoy it now.
In reality, they are trying to convince themselves that if they are going to die, it is better to die doing something pleasant.
But the reality is totally different. Gaining weight leads to a miserable and slow death, and losing weight leads to more fun in life.
Remember It is a choice!
