Instagram has just launched a new iOS and Android app called Edits. It’s basically a standalone app for Instagram which competes against ByteDance’s popular CapCut app for TikTok.
The aforementioned app was first announced back in January this year and is now available to download for free both on iPhone and Android devices.
Instagram announced the availability of the app on its page for “Creators”, describing it as an essential tool for creators on Instagram.
Today, we’re launching Edits – a new video creation app designed for creators. Instagram exists to help people express their creativity and we want to build the best creative tools to help you do this, not just on Instagram or Facebook, but on any platform. This is only the first step on this journey, and we can’t wait to evolve and improve Edits with your feedback.
Some of the Edits features include AI animations created from static images, green screen replacement and cutouts for subjects, among other standard video editing features.
Instagram says that it’s working on an update for Edits app already which will bring some new features to the app, including Key frames, modifying with AI effects, collaborations with friends, and even more options for fonts, animations, transitions, voice effects, filters and music options.
As mentioned earlier, the app can be downloaded for free from iOS App Store and Google Play on Android.
