The beauty of God’s creation is everywhere for all to see. Whether that is in the flowing rivers of water, the mountains peaking high above the clouds, or the trees and flowers scattered all around us. Though the beauty of creation is clear, it is also an undeniable fact that creation has suffered under the fall too.
As believers, we have been given the command to take care of God’s creation. Earth Day provides a great opportunity to pray these Earth Day prayers for our environment and ask God to help us protect, cherish, look after, and enjoy His creation so that those after us might too.
Romans 8:22-24 describes the condition of creation as follows, “We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.”
Just as our bodies experience the effects of the fall, we experience illness, weariness, aging, and death, so creation is also under the same bondage. Yet, just like we await the redemption of our bodies, creation does too. And one day, He will make all things new, including creation!
But creation is more than the beauty that we get to see. We read in Scripture that creation itself gives testimony of God’s existence. Though it is not a complete revelation, it does tell of His power, creativity, and beauty among other characteristics. In Psalm 19:1 we read, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
Even more clearly, we are told in Romans 1:20, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities — His eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
We not only have God’s creation to enjoy, but an ever-present testament to His existence! May we all grow in our love and care for His creation.
Earth Day Prayers

Creator God,
We are deeply thankful for the work of Your hands. As we celebrate Earth Day, we are reminded of the beauty of creation, and the need to steward it well.
It is such a blessing that we get to be surrounded by this constant reminder of Your presence, power, and beauty. We ask that every day that we get to live on this planet would serve as a reminder of the gift of creation.
Help us to take care of Your creatures and creation, and to enjoy its beauty each day.

2. A Prayer To Take Good Care Of God’s Creation
Heavenly Father,
We are grateful for Your many blessings, on this Earth Day, we are especially thankful for the gift of creation. Thank You for the air that we get to breathe, for the blue skies that I get to see, for the trees that provide shade, and for the many plants and seeds that provide us with sustenance.
Our prayer is that You grant us hearts that love Your creation and that we not only enjoy its beauty and benefits but also partake in caring for it. Please keep us from being wasteful, and from causing harm to creation. Help us to take pride in the work of Your hands and not be partakers in littering and treating it poorly.
Please help us to be good stewards of this earthly home that You have given us. Help us to be attentive, and not be indifferent towards Your creation. May we feel a personal responsibility to do our part, and to share who You are with others through creation.

Almighty God,
As we celebrate Earth Day, we are reminded that all of creation belongs to You. Every bird of the air, fish of the sea, and seeds that have sprouted into trees. The blade of grass, and the dancing flowers. The raging sea, and the giant mountains. It is all Yours and under Your sovereign hand.
Knowing this, we ask that You help us to live lives that honor You, and behave in ways that respect Your creation. As we are confronted with climate change, we ask that You grant us a sense of responsibility, knowing that we play a role in the carbon footprint that we leave.
We ask that You help us to be mindful of our actions, and the habits that we have built. Please help us to live simple lives by reducing the energy we use, and to be partakers of change. More than that, help us to seek Your help and be reminded of Your sovereignty so that we keep from being anxious.

4. A Prayer For The Living Creatures & Animals of The World
Father in Heaven,
We are in awe of the beauty of Your creation. We think of the many unique creatures that You have made, and how endless they are in number. They are each a reminder of Your creativity and Your power.
From the smallest ant to the great big elephant. From the stripes of the leopard to the feathered wings of the bird. Thank You for blessing us with such beauty, and that these creatures get to live among us.
We know that not all of Your creatures get treated well, and many have been endangered. We ask that You forgive us for bringing harm to them and that You would help us to protect them instead.

Lord,
Just like the heavens and earth declare Your glory, we too bring offerings of praise and thanks. Thank You God for the beauty of the earth, and that we get to live on it. Thank You for surrounding us with beautifully colored skies, flowing waters, and creatures of all kinds.
We don’t have to go far to witness the magnificent work of Your hands. We are grateful that we get to enjoy the blessing of creation. Thank You for the water we get to drink and the fruits and vegetables that grow from the ground and sustain us.
Thank You for the whistling birds, and the wonderful pets that bring us so much joy. Help us to be better stewards of Your creation, and to be wise in our dealings with it.

6. A Prayer For Clean Water
Gracious God,
Thank You for all Your blessings upon us. We thank You for the gift of water, that refreshes and hydrates us. We know that not everyone has access to water, especially clean water. So we bring our pleading prayer to You for those who thirst and for the condition of our water.
We ask that You bless those who are without clean water, with an overflow of water. May their thirst be quenched and their bodies receive the necessary water to keep them hydrated and healthy.
Please help us to purify and protect our water sources. May all those around the world have access to clean water and sanitation. And help those who have the resources to invest in making it a possibility for those who can’t.

Heavenly Father,
We are thankful that we get to experience Your wonderful creation. We ask that You bless our efforts to preserve your creatures and the plants that You have given us to enjoy.
May we be mindful of our actions and the impact that we have on creation. Please forgive us for our negligence, and indifference at times. Help us to think of those who will come after us, and be good stewards of Your creation.
May future generations know the blessing and beauty of Your creation, just as we do. Grant them a love and care for Your world too, and to continue to take care of it.

Lord,
You have graciously blessed us with the resources of the earth. Thank You for the fruits of creation that we get to enjoy, and for the beauty and sustenance that we experience through it daily.
We ask that You give us hearts that are grateful for these gifts and that we will not take them for granted. Please help us to use the resources You have given us wisely and to steward them well.
Keep us from being wasteful, and from desecrating Your world. We ask that You help us be mindful and intentional in our day to day living, and to not only develop better habits for sustainability but also have hearts that seek to see Your world taken care of.

9. A Prayer For The Ongoing Care Of The Planet
Dear God,
Thank You for a new day, and that we get to celebrate Earth Day in particular. May this day be a time of reflection, as we consider Your work, and our temporary home that You have given us.
May we not only be aware of our impact on the planet today but also help us to care for and about the earth on a daily basis. May our efforts towards being good stewards be ongoing, and not only start and end with this holiday.
We ask that You grant us the wisdom to care for the earth and to till it. May we continue to enjoy the blessings of the earth, and remember that it is a gift to be cherished.
