Suzuki Alto is facing a turbulent phase as recent rumors and declining sales figures have sparked uncertainty among buyers. Since its launch, Alto gained wide popularity because of its small size and exceptional fuel efficiency and affordable pricing. According to official sales data, the Alto experienced a 29% reduction in the previous month.
This decline was attributed to rumours that the car was being discontinued and that motorway access was restricted. Statistics from PAMA reveal an 29% reduction in Suzuki Alto sales from 5,039 units during January 2025 to 3,561 units throughout February 2025.
The sales performance of Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) demonstrated a major drop of 35% from its January 2025 total of 8,250 vehicles to its February 2025 figure of 5,330 vehicles. The breakdown of Suzuki’s vehicle sales in February 2025 is as follows:
- Alto: 3,561 units
- Cultus: 282 units
- Wagon R: 207 units
- Swift: 651 units
- Bolan: 9 units
- Ravi: 510 units
- Every: 110 units
At the same time, Alto sales experienced an abrupt decline as cancellation rumours regarding the vehicle began to circulate on social media platforms. There was a widespread rumour that the National Highway Authority (NHA) had prohibited Alto automobiles from accessing motorways.
Official confirmations have disproven both rumours. PSMC officials have verified that the company is considering the elimination of the Alto VX model due to its lack of safety features. However, the entire Alto model range is still available on the market.
The motorway restriction claim was explicitly denounced by official NHA representatives in an explicit statement, who characterised it as “baseless and misleading.” The Motorway Police released an official clarification, stating:
“A baseless and misleading claim is circulating on social media, stating that a specific vehicle (Alto) has been banned from entering the motorway. The Motorway Police would like to clarify that this news is not based on any credible or official source and holds no truth. The public is urged not to trust or spread unverified information. For accurate and authentic updates, always refer to official sources of the Motorway Police.”
Despite these temporary setbacks, Suzuki Alto remains a dominant player in the Pakistani auto market. The company’s focus on improving safety features and addressing misinformation could help stabilize its position in the coming months.
