Residents in Selkirk, Scotland are seeing regular shortages of cash from ATMs. Due to recent closures of its banks and post office, there is only one ATM in town for use and one right on the edge of town, according to a report by the BBC.

Some of the businesses in Selkirk only accept cash, which has caused issues for residents.

“Last Friday I was meeting a friend who had suffered a bereavement and we were going to an establishment that only took cash — guess what, neither the ATM on the High Street or the one within the garage on the edge of the town had any money,” Aileen Firth, resident, told the news outlet.

Carolina Cochrane, councillor, Selkirk, has written to both ATM companies and politicians to try to improve cash access.

“There’s a limited amount of money that goes into the ATM each week, and when it’s gone, it’s gone,” Cochrane told the news outlet.
