Google’s Pixel Sense is a contextual assistant for Pixel 10 series

Google is working on a more intelligent, contextual assistant called Pixel Sense. Pixel Sense, previously rumoured to be called ‘Pixie,’ is reportedly an on-device assistant for Google Pixel devices. Last year, rumours suggested that it would be on the Pixel 9 series, but Google was tight-lipped about the new app, and it’s now going to make its way to the Pixel 10 series, according to Android Authority.

Pixel Sense will reportedly use information from Google apps and process media files, including text, images, AI-generated content, screenshots and even the metadata from those files. The Pixel Sense app will also be able to organize and search screenshots.

Currently, Google has the Pixel Screenshots app, which allows users to organize screenshots, but users still have to do this manually. Even with yesterday’s Pixel Drop, the Screenshots app only suggests adding screenshots to collections, but it looks like Pixel Sense will be able to organize it for you completely.

Here are the apps that Pixel Sense will access information from:

  • Calendar
  • Chrome
  • Contacts
  • Docs
  • Files
  • Gmail
  • Keep Notes
  • Maps
  • Messages
  • Phone
  • Photos
  • Aurelius (It’s unclear what this is at the moment, but likely an unreleased app)
  • Recorder
  • Screenshots
  • Wallet
  • YT Music
  • YouTube

The leak also details some additional context from Google about Sense, noting it will be able to “take notes to suggest personal data like places, products, and names when you need them.” It could also “learn how you use your phone to complete tasks and routines faster,” and learn which topics you find important and adapt to your interests.

Reportedly, the app will run on-device or online, and Google cannot see your data. If the promises hold, this app could be a game-changer for AI; however, most AI apps and features we’ve seen so far leave much to be desired.
