Dadu Police Crack Down on Fake Social Media Bomb Threats

Authorities in Dadu have taken legal action against 34 individuals accused of spreading false bomb threats on social media, causing widespread fear. Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ameer Saud Magsi confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.

A spokesperson for the Dadu police emphasized that misinformation is being deliberately circulated online, urging citizens to verify news before sharing. SSP Magsi clarified that while the case has been registered, police teams are actively pursuing the suspects, with 30 raiding units deployed to apprehend them.

“The false reports sparked unnecessary alarm among the public,” he stated, underscoring that the spread of unverified information constitutes a criminal offense under Section 20 of PECA. He also revealed that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been formally requested to assist in further legal proceedings.

The development comes amid a surge in terrorist activities nationwide, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Additionally, on Monday, the FIA apprehended a suspect in Islamabad for allegedly running an anti-state social media campaign linked to the Jaffar Express train attack.
