Apple today announced the new MacBook Air, featuring the M4 chip ahead of the expected arrival of Apple Intelligence in the EU in April.
The acBook Air now comes in two screen sizes, 13″ and 15″ and in a number of colours. Fans of ‘space grey’ will be out of luck as its has been replaced with ‘sky blue’, which Apple calls “a metallic light blue that joins midnight, starlight, and silver”.
The M4 chip features a powerful 10-core CPU, an up to 10-core GPU, and support for up to 32GB of unified memory, making the new MacBook Air up to twice as fast as the M1 model.
The Neural Engine in the M4 chip, which accelerates AI-based tasks, is also up to three times faster than on MacBook Air with M1, significantly increasing speed in tasks like automatically enhancing photos and removing background noise from a video.
The MacBook Air also comes with a new 12MP Centre Stage camera, that tracks the position of a speaker on a call or presentation in the middle of the frame.
It also offers support for up to two external displays in addition to the built-in display, 16GB of starting unified memory, and runs macOS Sequoia out of the box.
Pre-orders are underway with availability beginning Wednesday, 12 March. Pricing starts at €1,249
