A Satisfying Retirement Involves Change

Over twelve years of blogging, several books, a national magazine profile, and countless friends, both virtual and real, Satisfying Retirement has been a central part of my retired life. In fact, I have spent more than half of my time away from work on this project.

Every day, I check for new comments to leave a response. At least three days a week, I plop down in front of the laptop to write about a topic that will have some appeal to you. Ideas for posts come from reading, random ideas, suggestions from you, or things I am wondering about myself.

To all things there is a season. There is a beginning and an end to something, then the beginning of something else.

Satisfying Retirement has accomplished so much more than I envisioned when I started blogging in June of 2010. The first post had 50 readers. Last month, almost 2,700 a day decided to take a look. Apparently, the topics still have an audience.

Even so, my creative fire has dimmed. Over the last several months, I have struggled to fulfill what I feel is an obligation to my readers and me. That is not the mental condition that is best for producing meaningful content. It is time to bring this one phase of my retirement to an end.

This is the last post for me and Satisfying Reetirement.

What is ahead?  I have no firm path forward to fill the hours that blogging has occupied, though sitting on the couch isn’t in the cards.

*I have given some thought to writing another retirement book.

* More time developing my painting and guitar skills? Yes

* More time working on my volunteer and board work with the local library system? Absolutely.

* Spending as much time with family as possible before the grandkids start to move away to college and adult life? No question.

* Getting ready for a move to a three-tier retirement community in the next few years? Yes…a tentative date has already been selected.

* Missing my interaction with you? You can count on it.

I will leave Satisfying Retirement available on this site for the foreseeable future. Check out the archives for anything you might want to review or read.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for almost 5 million views, for allowing me to feel useful, and for providing a service that hopefully made your life a little brighter and a little more satisfying.

Bob Lowry (and my forever partner, Betty)
