While the Tesla Cybertruck can be used to power other devices and even charge other electric vehicles, the rest of the company’s lineup isn’t in on the act.
But you can change that thanks to a new Kickstarter campaign that promises to add Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) support.
The V2L system is what’s required to turn your Tesla electric vehicle into what is essentially a large battery pack and then allow it to be used to power other things.
Those things can theoretically be appliances like fridges or an entire home should the need arise. The V2L system can also offer support for charging other vehicles, too.
The VortiPower PowerShare VP20 can power anything that would normally run off a 120V, 12A wall socket and has two 120V outlets with a power output of 3,500W. Need more power? You can use a single port and output 240V, which would be enough to provide electricity to more power-hungry devices, including other vehicles.
As for pricing, the VortiPower VP20 is now available under an early-bird offer that sees the usual $899 price slashed to $749, while the price is set to bounce up to around $1,700 once it’s sold via retail once the Kickstarter has come to a close.
With that in mind, if this is something you can make use of we would suggest considering backing the project now to avoid paying more later.
