Spotify has announced a partnership with ElevenLabs, a leading AI audio provider, to introduce AI-narrated audiobooks on its platform. Through this collaboration, authors can generate audiobooks in 29 languages, though the free version of ElevenLabs’ service is limited to 10 minutes of text-to-speech conversion.
To submit an audiobook narrated by AI, authors must first obtain the file package from ElevenLabs and subsequently visit Findaway Voices, Spotify’s audiobook distribution service.
The recording must subsequently undergo a review procedure prior to being uploaded. Titles that have been narrated by AI are identified by Spotify.
Authors can narrate their audiobooks in 29 languages using ElevenLabs. The free version restricts users to 10 minutes of text-to-speech per month, while the $99/month Pro plan generates up to 500 minutes of narration.
Two years have passed since Spotify and Google Play Books collaborated to provide AI-narrated audiobooks. The audiobook library of Spotify is set to be expanded through partnerships with additional companies.
However, the publishing community is purportedly embroiled in a significant debate regarding the proliferation of AI-generated audiobooks. The quality of audiobooks for consumers may be compromised by these AI recordings, according to certain industry professionals.
