Samsung Teased A New Tri-Fold Phone And Here’s What It Might Be Called

The world of foldable phones continues to change as we get more and more used to the clamshell and book-like devices that have become the norm.

Now, Samsung looks set to launch its first tri-fold device and we might also know what it’s going to be called.

The phone was teased at Samsung’s Unpacked event last month, and while details were not given, a new report from GSM Arena (based on a Naver post) suggests that we should expect the handset to be called the Galaxy G Fold.

The report goes on to say that the design will be similar to that of the Huawei Mate XT with the main display being a 10-inch affair, similar to that of standard tablets.

The report goes on to say that the phone should weigh less than 300 grams if its information is correct, but the handset won’t be as thin as the Huawei model it will be pitted against. GSM Arena suggests that the Samsung model won’t be able to match the Mate XT’s 3.6mm thickness when unfolded, but details as to how far it will miss that figure by aren’t yet clear.

As for the displays, we’re told that the foldable display will come in at 9.96 inches when opened up while the folded version will measure 6.54 inches which is larger than that of the Galaxy Z Fold6 that sits at the top of Samsung’s lineup currently.

As for timelines, it isn’t expected that the new tri-fold phone will be announced until January of next year, so there is plenty of time for more details to leak before then.
