New Office HQ Begins Construction in DC Suburb

Nationally ranked commercial construction company HITT Contracting recently celebrated the groundbreaking of its future headquarters in Falls Church, Va. Designed by renowned architecture firm Gensler, the property is set to incorporate 270,000 square feet of suburban Washington, D.C. office space across six stories. Delivery of the project is expected in early 2027.

“As we break ground on our new headquarters, we’re laying the foundation for innovation, progress, and collaboration,” said Kim Roy, CEO of HITT Contracting. “This building is so much more than an office. It’s a beacon of what’s possible when curiosity, ingenuity, and determination fuse to create a new vision.”

With sustainability at the core of its design, this project aims to earn a LEED Platinum certification and stand as testament to HITT’s commitment to driving influential change and the partnership between industry and academia.

To that end, the building will include a 40,000-square-foot research lab developed in partnership with Virginia Tech’s Coalition for Smart Construction — a collaboration created to support hands-on research and development addressing challenges in the built environment, such as sustainability, labor shortage, and materials innovation.

The cutting-edge facility is slated to become a nationally recognized innovation hub where building practices will be advanced to shape the industry’s future.

“We are excited to partner with HITT and grow our network of innovation to address the future of smart construction,” said Julie Ross, Paul and Dorothea Torgersen dean of engineering at Virginia Tech. “Upon completion, this space will provide an opportunity to partner with industry in the development of new technologies and approaches that will transform the construction industry while supporting graduate student research and experiential learning. Together, we can imagine the future and help to develop the technology and the talent to get it there.”

Designed to meet net-zero energy and net-zero carbon goals, the new headquarters building will be powered by a 100,000-square-foot, photovoltaic solar canopy and wind turbines to offset all of its estimated energy needs. One innovative feature debuting at the facility is a HyperWall building envelope system developed with Building Composites, which presents a lighter, stronger, and more efficient construction solution.

Located within a lively community near the West Falls Church Metro station, HITT’s new central office location supports sustainable urban development by providing convenient mass transit access for the more than 900 local team members.

At the start of the year, the Washington, D.C. office market had more than 1.5 million square feet of new office projects in development, according to our latest quarterly national office market report. At the close of Q4 2024, this was the fifth-largest under-construction pipeline among U.S. office markets larger than 100 million square feet. However, considering the overall scale of the market, this pipeline represented less than 1% of stock.
